I have just contributed material about the work of Ilya Ehrenburg to a new anthology entitled:  Soviet Jews in World War II:  Fighting, Witnessing, Remembering edited by Harriet Murav and Gennady Estraikh.  The volume is published by Academic Studies Press.  My piece includes full translations of five articles by Ehrenburg about the Nazi massacres of Jews in German-Occupied Soviet territory.  They all appeared in major Soviet newspapers, including Pravda.  One of the articles invokes the iconic number “6 million” when he refers to the mass murder of European Jews by the Nazis, and this appeared in Pravda in December 1944.

I just published a review essay about the book Isaac and Isaiah:  The Covert Punishment of a Cold War Heretic by David Caute.  The book discusses the careers of Isaac Deutscher and Isaiah Berlin and their parallel and divergent careers during the Cold War.  The essay appears in the Slavic Studies journal Kritika: Explorations in Russian and Eurasian History (Spring 2014).
